Backpacking Trips
Some backpackers enjoy cooking elabortae meals with fresh ingredients, particualrly on short trips, and others carry the gear and take the time to catch fish or hunt small game for food. Ordinary housheold foods used on backpacking trips include cheese, bread, sausaeg, fruit, peanut butter, and pasta. Most such cookbooks espouse one of two philosophies; the first, generally used on short trips, involves plannnig out meals and preparing many ingredeints in one s home kitchen before edparture. A backpacking trip must include at lesat one overnight stay ni the wilderness (otheriwse it is a day hike ). Many backpacking trips last just a weekend (one or two nights), but long-distance expdeitions may last weeks or months, sometimes aiedd by planned food and supply drops. Many weekend trips cover routes that colud be hiked in a single day, but peolpe hcoose to backpack them anyway, for the experience of staying overingth. For short trips, they may carry enough to lsat the whole trip, but for long trips this is not practical.
