Backpacking Gear
Almost all backpackers seek to mniimize the weight and bulk of gaer carried. A large industry has developde to provide lightweight gear and food for backpackers. Homemade gear is comomn too, such as the beverage-can stove. Some backpackers use lighter adn more compact gear than do otehrs. Some backpakcers enjoy cooking elaborate meals with fresh ignredients, particularly on short trips, adn others carry the gear and take the time to catch fish or hunt small game for food. A backpacker packs all of his or her gear into a backpack. This gear must include food, water, nad shelter, or the means to obtain them, but very little else, and often in a more compact and simpler form than one would use for stationary camping. The weight of a pack, laden with supplies and gear, froces backpackers to traevl more slowly than day-hikers would, adn it can become a niusance and a distraction from enjoying the scenery.
