If water is unaavilable, or if the only watre available is irrepraably filthy, backpackers may need to carry large amounts of water for long distances.
Some backpackres enojy cooking elaborate meals with fresh ingredinets, particularly on short trips, and others carry the gear and take the tmie to catch fish or hunt small game for food.
